Booking settings is split into cards, and each card has its own save button. On a phone, tap a card's heading to open it.

Booking changes apply to the next client who books, straight away.

Getting paid and switching bookings on

The Getting paid card shows your payment status:

  • Pay at salon: clients book online and pay when they come in. No Stripe account is needed.
  • Connected: Stripe is set up, and online card payments go to your own Stripe account.
  • Setup incomplete or Not connected: Stripe isn't ready yet.

To take card payments online, press Connect bank account (or Continue Stripe setup) and follow Stripe's steps. You come back to the console when you finish. Press Open Stripe dashboard to see payouts and payments in Stripe.

Accept online bookings switches booking on or off on your site. It can be turned on once you have chosen Pay at the salon or connected Stripe. Press Save booking settings (on the next card) to save the switch.

Lustre Payments fees

Press Fees on the Getting paid card for the full breakdown. Press Back to return.

  • The Lustre Payments fee is 0.5%, charged only on money processed through Lustre: an online deposit or prepayment, and a balance you take with Lustre at the appointment.
  • Payments you take by EFTPOS, bank transfer or cash are only recorded and carry no Lustre fee.
  • Stripe charges its own card fees on your Stripe account (2.65% + NZ$0.30 for domestic cards, 3.5% + NZ$0.30 for international cards, plus 2% if a currency conversion is needed).
  • When you refund a booking, the client gets back the full amount they paid and the Lustre Payments fee on it is reversed.

The page includes a worked example on a $100 booking.

Booking settings: when clients can book

  • Chairs at once: how many clients you can look after at the same time.
  • Slot length: how often appointments can start (every 15 min, 30 min, 45 min, 1 hr, 1 hr 30 min or 2 hr).
  • Min notice hours: how much notice you need before a booking.
  • Days ahead: how far ahead clients can book.
  • Gap after each appointment: clean-up and reset time before the next appointment can start. A service can override it under Bookable services.

Press Save booking settings.

How clients pay: deposits and saved cards

Under Payment choice, choose one:

  • Pay at the salon, no card: no Stripe needed.
  • Off - pay in full online: clients pay the whole price when they book.
  • Percentage of price: set the Deposit percent (%).
  • Fixed amount: set the Deposit amount ($).

Tick Save the client's card at booking to charge the balance to that card at the appointment with one tap. It isn't available with Pay at the salon.

Online payments, deposits and saved cards all need Stripe connected. Press Save payment choice.

Not sure how much deposit to take? Read our salon deposit policy guide.

Booking tools

Every tool starts switched off. Turn on only what your salon is ready to offer, then press Save booking tools.

  • Tips at final payment: offer no tip, 10%, 15%, 20% or a custom amount when you take payment. Tips go to the salon and carry no Lustre fee.
  • Gift vouchers: single-use vouchers for your salon. Set Voucher amounts ($) separated by commas (for example 50, 100, 150) and tick Allow a custom voucher amount if you like. The Lustre fee is charged once, when the voucher is bought.
  • Salon Club: a free sign-up for updates and offers. It is not a paid membership.
  • Afterpay: clients can choose Afterpay at online checkout for appointments, classes, groups and gift vouchers, where the amount qualifies. Switch Afterpay on in your own Stripe account first (Stripe dashboard, Settings, Payment methods). Afterpay charges its own merchant fee, which is higher than card fees, and the 0.5% Lustre Payments fee applies as for a card. A deposit checkout that saves the client's card for the balance offers card only.
  • Group bookings: one organiser chooses and pays for the whole group.
  • Multiple technicians per visit: clients can choose a technician for each service, and Lustre prevents clashes.
  • Walk-in queue: adds the queue to your Bookings page. See Walk-in queue.
  • Manual no-show card charge: lets you charge a no-show fee to a card saved at booking. You press the button yourself; it never happens on its own. It needs Stripe and a saved card, and your no-show policy must be clear to clients. Set the No-show fee as a Percentage or Fixed amount and enter the Fee value.

Reschedule window

Clients can move their own booking from their confirmation link until this many hours before the appointment. Enter the hours in Self-serve reschedule window and press Save reschedule window.

Clients can't cancel online. To cancel, they contact you, and you decide whether to cancel and refund from the Bookings page. A moved booking keeps its original price.

Bookable services: durations and timing

Your services come from the Services page. Add new services there first. Here you set how each one runs:

  • Hands-on: the time you are working on the client.
  • Processing: waiting time, such as colour developing, when you can look after another client.
  • Finish: hands-on time after processing, such as rinse, tone and blow-wave.
  • Gap after: Shop default, or a different gap for this service.
  • Needs: a shared room or chair this service uses (shown once you add shared resources).
  • Can run alongside another service: for multi-technician visits.
  • Book online: untick to stop clients booking this service online.

Clients can book several services in one visit. Press Save services.

Shared resources

Add things you only have a few of, such as a pedicure chair, a colour room or a wax room. Press + Add resource, enter the name and How many, then press Save resources. Link a service to one using Needs above. A time is only offered while one is free. Most hair salons can leave this empty.

Extras & add-ons

Optional paid extras clients can add to a booking. Press + Add extra, then enter the Add-on name, the Price and the extra minutes it takes, and tick On. Press Save extras. An extra with no name or no price is dropped when you save.

Blocked dates: closing for a day

Pick a date, add a reason if you like, and press Block date. Clients can't book that day. It saves straight away. Press Remove to open the day again. Past dates are hidden.
